Update from Executive Director Tom Switzer

Tom SwitzerMarch 25, 2020

The COVID-19 coronavirus is having a significant impact on the lives of all Australians. During these dark days, we at the Centre for Independent Studies wish the best possible outcome for you, your family and friends in the weeks and months ahead.

Although we are working from home and have paused our events calendar, rest assured, the CIS are preparing a policy agenda that will help Australia emerge from this crisis in a stronger position. With this in mind we are finalising plans to create and deliver online events to promote our message.

Of course, in response to COVID-19, Canberra and the states are right to provide relief to our fellow Australians who are suffering hardship from illness or job loss.

Ultimately, as pointed out in this video, the Morrison government has an opportunity to turn this crisis into a platform to get business and the markets moving again. And with your continued support, CIS will play an important role in those efforts. cis.org.au/support/

We will survive the coronavirus panic as Australia adapts to the challenges. But our nation’s ability to bounce back from this crisis will rely on a new reform agenda that supports the prosperity-creating business sector, a sensible approach to education, and strategies to improve productivity. An independent voice will be needed in the months and years ahead to guide our recovery policy in the right direction.
