An opportunity exists to provide fieldwork assistance to a new Centre for Independent Studies research project.
The Overcoming the Odds research series is currently focussed on identifying common policies and practices in our highest performing majority Indigenous schools, with a view to sharing, and hopefully, replicating these success factors. The research is motivated on positive elements that may help schools overcome the educational odds.
The research has been approved by relevant authorities and promises to be highly impactful for policy and practice in education in majority Indigenous schools.
Requirements of the candidate:
- Availability to physically visit up to 8 schools in regional and remote NSW to support research fieldwork in late Term 3 and Term 4. Available dates for site visits to be individually agreed between the fieldworker and participating school principals.
- Experienced primary school teacher, preferably with experience working in majority Indigenous schools. Experience in school leadership or school improvement considered favourably.
- Recently retired or part time teachers are encouraged to apply.
- Candidates residing outside Greater Sydney are also encouraged to apply.
- Familiarity with explicit instruction, scientifically-informed pedagogical practice, current professional standards, and current NSW school curriculum are desired.
- Current NSW Working with Children Check and/or teaching registration.
- Temporary contract for the duration of . remuneration is calculated a per site visit. All approved relevant travel and associated costs in conducting site visits are fully reimbursed.
Accountabilities for the candidate’s work:
- Provide concise, accurate, and informed observations of classroom practice during site visits to participating schools. At least two classroom observations are to be conducted per site visit.
- Ability to seek any necessary clarification from classroom teachers involved in site visits.
- Ability to identify and communicate relevant teaching practices which may explain relative success of participating schools.
- Report observations to Project Lead in a timely manner after conducting site visits.
- Schools in this study are participating anonymously and all observations must be treated as confidential.
